By trade, I am a cultural and cognitive sociologist, who, once upon a time, taught college (in fact, it was my students who originally got me thinking about writing a travel guide for young Americans!)

Having dedicated a huge chunk of my life to studying people and "how they do", I do not roam the world
oblivious to political issues, economic disparities and environmental challenges. Witnessing societies and trying to understand their dynamics is a major point of interest in my travels. You will find this book written from a perspective of a voyaging social scientist who always strives to look beyond the pretty facades put on by the Ministry of Tourism – and tries to observe and participate in the realities of the countries I visit.
